Hey You beautiful lot, it’s that time of year again … The treats are plenty and the drinks are flowing. While your sweet tooth should be thoroughly satisfied this holiday season, your gut and your health might take a toll. Looking for some advice that will help you get through the holidays without packing on the pounds or totally breaking your diet? Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. Check out my top 5 tips for a healthier Christmas!
- Take It Easy On The Booze
Holiday cocktails are of course super yummy, but most of them are loaded with calories and sugars. If you can’t possibly imagine getting through the holidays without having some drinks, at least try to opt for low-cal selections such as gin fizzes, a glass of champagne or sparkling wine instead of creamy eggnog blends or rich ciders.
- Munch On Fruits, Nuts & Veggies
Try to snack on healthy munchies instead of reaching for sugary sweets, baked goodies and other seasonal treats. Cranberries, pecans, almonds, chestnuts and figs are all tasty choices. Don’t forget to keep some snacks with you when attending holiday parties, socials and special events because you never know what will be offered. Toss a few bags of healthy snacks in a drawer at the office too so you can curb those cravings without going on a binge.
- Keep Track Of What You Eat
Mindless munching during the holidays can quickly throw your diet off for months to come, so make sure you keep up with what all you are eating each day. The best way to do this is by carrying around a small notepad or a food journal that allows you to discreetly calorie count. You could also look at recording your meals on the go using a diet tracking app that does it all for you (I would recommend using MyFitnessPal for this).
- Don’t Let The Stress Get To You
The Christmas season is one of the busiest of the year, which is why it’s easy to become overwhelmed with holiday stress. Stress leads to weight gain, which is why you should make it a point to set aside some time for yourself to relax, unwind and destress. Grab yourself some aromatherapy candles, take a warm bath after a long day or make time to meditate when you need a quick break.
- Make Time For Exercise
It’s easy to forget about exercising when bustling around during the Christmas season, but it’s important for you to maintain some sort of weekly regimen. If you can’t get to the gym between all of the festivities, at least go for a walk, do some sledging with the kids, get the family together for a day hike or do some indoor yoga.
Christmas will be here and then gone before you know it. Enjoy the holiday season with your loved ones, but don’t let go of all that you have achieved throughout the year. If you want to stay fit and healthy over the Christmas holidays, use these 5 tips to help you out.
Until next time I hope you have the most amazing Christmas!
